Making Memories with MK Tours & Travel

It’s the perfect day trip for local families or tourists looking for a wildlife experience close to Johannesburg, without having to travel as far as Pilanesberg or Kruger National Park.

Imagine a balmy Johannesburg morning, meeting your personal chauffeur at the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel and being whisked away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Imagine being transferred in one of the luxury New Generation BMW’s in the MK Tours & Travel fleet. How about opting for the irresistible style of a Maserati QPS Black Black.

MK Tours & Travel recently opened their offices in Johannesburg, offering luxury transfers and tours in and around Johannesburg. Their service is impeccable and true to their promise, “We don’t just do travel, we build memories.”

I love living in Johannesburg and exploring the city and its surrounding areas. We have so much to offer visitors but yet Jozi, as we fondly refer to her, is often overlooked as a holiday destination. MK Tours & Travel aims to change the perception of Johannesburg being a tourist pass-through to the rest of South Africa.

Johannesburg has its own unique charm, not found anywhere else in South Africa, a rich history, cultural diversity and an amazing mix of people who will welcome you with warm hospitality. Johannesburg has soul and once you take the time to explore this beautiful place and allow yourself to fall in love with its people, you will find a new family and you will come home to the City of Gold, again and again.

MK Tours & Travel will introduce you to Johannesburg and its surroundings in unsurpassed style with transfers and tours to some of the best attractions on offer. They currently offer tours to Gold Reef City, Soweto, Pretoria, Sun City, Lesedi Cultural Village, Cradle of Humankind, Hartebeespoortdam, the Lion and Safari Park and the Elephant and Monkey Sanctuary amongst others.

Whenever I’m being chauffeured by MK Tours & Travel it gives me great comfort knowing that the drivers are trained to LQA standards with PDP’s and that the vehicles come with a R20-million Passenger Liability Insurance. It just gives me the reassurance that I am in safe hands and this knowledge makes the experience so much more enjoyable. So I can sit back and enjoy the moments in style and luxury.

I recently visited the Lion and Safari Park with MK Tours & Travel. I was reluctant about the trip at first because I was not a fan of the old Lion Park at all.

Nestled in the foothills of the Magaliesberg, the new Lion Park was a pleasant surprise and a world-class facility compared to it’s predecessor, which we all might have visited a few years ago, at its previous location near Lanseria. At the new premises in the Cradle of Humankind, occupying 600 hectares of open land with breathtaking natural surroundings, the Lion Park offers visitors an amazing wildlife experience with a choice of guided game drives, private safari drives or self-drives. Whether you want to get really close to the predators or enjoy the serenity of the antelope area, the Lion Park offers something for everyone.

It’s the perfect day trip for local families or tourists looking for a wildlife experience close to Johannesburg, without having to travel as far as Pilanesberg or Kruger National Park. It’s a romantic getaway for two, a day out with friends or that much needed corporate retreat away from the office. It can be whatever you choose it to be.

The lion enclosures are huge, giving the animals plenty of space to move around. The tour guides are friendly, experienced, well-trained and extremely knowledgeable which makes the tours very informative. They will happily answer your questions and address any concerns regarding lion cub petting, canned lion hunting or lions in captivity.

As South Africans, we have a responsibility to stay informed about issues surrounding our wildlife heritage so we can protect it for generations to come and share it with visitors in a responsible way.

You can read their current position on lion cub petting here.

The mini safari tour is perfect for visitors who don’t have a lot of time available. You will get to see the lions, hyenas, wild dog and leopard in the enclosed areas and visit the antelope safari area.

The giraffes are my personal favourites. They are the most beautiful and sophisticated creatures, moving with such poise and effortless elegance. I could watch them for hours. They appear to be so calm and composed, seemingly unaware of the world around them, completely serene. Their energy is contagious.

After visiting the lion enclosures, we explored the rest of the park and had the opportunity to see zebra, giraffe, nyala, gemsbok, wildebeest and many other animals before enjoying a relaxing, delicious lunch next to the river.

Currently, there is an opportunity to interact with the lion cubs and some of the other predators one on one, should you wish to do so. The Lion Park is working on doing away with this practice and getting legislation passed against lion cub petting at all facilities in South Africa, establishing a level playing field for facilities like theirs across the country.

After your tour you can enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants while letting the kids loose in the outdoor kiddies play area. The restaurant offers a breathtaking view over the wetlands, which allows you to continue viewing a variety of wildlife, while enjoying your meal.

It’s easy to get completely lost in the tranquility of the Lion Park and be transported to a world far away from the city. I almost forgot that we were just a stone throw away from Johannesburg and that’s exactly what makes the Lion Park so attractive.

Before heading home, visit the Photographic Centre to have your photos taken and printed. The Photographic Centre is the largest in the world. If you really want that picture with a lion, you can have it taken on the green screen.

For the shoppers in our midst, you can take some time to browse at the 5 Dome Shopping Experience and find something special to remember your visit by. You will be spoilt for choice with the extensive range of arts, crafts, jewellery and clothing, a wide variety of homeware, toys and kiddies clothing from all over Africa.

If you have opted to make MK Tours & Travel part of your Lion Park experience, sit back, relax and enjoy the drive back to Johannesburg in a luxury New Generation BMW … or as I did … a stylish Maserati.

After all, it’s all about building memories and thats exactly what MK Tours & Travel specialise in.

Love always,
